2020-2014 / Essential Workers/phase 1
Essential Workers, is a form of undercover reportage and documentation presenting working conditions of hourly laborers at the front end of consumerism in the United States of America. The series expands on references to time that form undercurrents in much of my work - cyclical and paused, geological and momentary, lost and seized, contemplative and purchased. In the apparent anonymity of market machinations, time has an hourly price.
The series consists of over 50-plus, and ongoing, drawings, each 9x12-inches, Prismacolor pencil on waxed Stonehenge paper. The series has been exhibited at the Herron School of Art Galleries, Indianapolis - solo exhibition; the Red Line Contemporary Art Center, Denver; MINT Gallery, Atlanta - Annual Juried Exhibition 2020, juried by Sarah Higgins, art director of Art Papers; Little Things Swan Coach House, Atlanta - 2020; Spalding Nix Gallery, Atlanta, 2021- solo exhibition 2021; Hambidge Auction, 2021-22; and Gatherered V, Museum of Contemporary Art, Georgia, 2022.
